UAE Students recognized as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Scholars by New York University

Three UAE University students have been included in the 2009-10 class of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Scholars Program.The program recognizes outstanding students in the United Arab Emirates and provides them with special academic leadership opportunities.

UAE University Scholars

The students, as selected by a distinguished panel of judges from NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU New York, included three UAE University Scholars:.

  • Amina Abdulrahman Saeed Farah (College of Education)
  • Khadija Mohammed Al Lawati (College of Law)
  • Saba Najeeb Sadiq (College of Business and Economics).

The Scholars " should be proud of their achievements"

Sheikh Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, co-chair of the Scholars Program Steering Committee said "The students awarded scholarships for this year should be very proud of their achievements, and I’m sure they will enjoy the scholarship program as much as the inaugural class did in 2008-09."

Diane C. Yu, Executive Director of the Scholars Program and the Chief of Staff and Deputy to President Sexton, reiterated the focus on talent and skills: “We are delighted that these exceptional men and women will be part of the second class of scholars. They represent the very best qualities of academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, leadership potential, creativity, skills, and accomplishments among the top university students in the UAE. 

 

Special Courses on Political Power, Religion and US Foreign Policy

As part of the 2009-10 program, the scholars will take part in a range of Specialized Courses and Educational Activities.

Courses will include one on religion and government, which will be taught by NYU President John Sexton, another on “Political Power in Modern America”, taught by Robert Shrum, the political strategist and senior NYU fellow, and also seminars lead by James Traub, the respected New York Times Magazine journalist, on the “Main Trends in American Foreign Policy”.

 

Enrichment Programs and Visits to Historical Sites

The students will participate in special English language training and Enrichment Programs, as well as travel to the U.S. to visit the Supreme Court, a number of Washington's historic sites and also NYU’s Washington Square Campus in New York.

Opportunities to attend selected programs, lectures and conferences, all sponsored by NYU Abu Dhabi Institute will also be arranged, and participants will have numerous chances to meet and talk with well respected leaders of their fields.

Scholarship students will also receive preparation for graduate and professional studies, and those demonstrating the highest merit and motivation who are accepted at NYU graduate or professional schools will be offered full scholarships.
