Following an endowment of three million US$ from the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation the UAEU Global Health Institute will become the Zayed Center for Global Health
On October 27th, 2011 H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAE University signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Partnership Agreement between UAE University and Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation to establish the Zayed Center for Global Health at UAE University with an endowment of three million US$. H.E. Salem bin Obaid Al Dhaheri, Director General of the Foundation signed the MOU and the Partnership Agreement on behalf of the Foundation
On this occasion, H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation praised the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President for his wise leadership to foster and implement the continuous charitable and humanitarian efforts at the local and international levels. 'This MOU comes in the context of the presidential directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and his infinite support to provide funding sources for the Foundation's projects", he added. He also commended the role of the University as it strives to become a leading center for scientific research and innovation in UAE.
H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAE University emphasized and appraised the role of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation for its efforts in the service of Charitable and Humanitarian issues both locally and internationally. "This leading Foundation has managed, during its long history of achievements, to represent a bridge for human kind within and outside of the UAE" he stated.
H.H. the Minister stressed that the establishment of the Zayed Center for Global Health at UAE University will result in the advancement and development of scientific research in the area of Health, particularly finding new remedies for incurable and chronic diseases in order to find preventive measures and treatment by the specialists in the Center. He thanked the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for their effort which will be felt in all areas of life everywhere.
In addition, H.E. Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri applauded the MOU that supports the framework of Community outreach and is designed to provide societal services through caring about the individual and community health. "The Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation's support for the new Center which is the first of its kind in the region, will specialize in conducting medical research and studies on diseases, providing health advice to combat many diseases and health threats in collaboration with international universities. "In the same context, I would like to acknowledge the role of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the Higher Education Institutions in the UAE and we are proud of the achievements attained by UAE University for its advanced academic standing and community service, and its open door policy for all social organizations for the sake of community development in cooperation with the University". He further pointed out: "The Foundation shall activate its participation by providing support amounting to three million US$ with the revenue to be used to establish the Sheikh Zayed Chair of Health Sciences while the Foundation will continue to participate with the Center to achieve the desired outcomes to enrich scientific research programs and plans to develop the Chair academically.
Dr. Abdulla Al Khanbashi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU praised the cooperation between the University and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and its distinguished role in supporting the internal and external community. He indicated that the MOU aims mainly to:
- Conduct research and provide health consultation on many incurable diseases and to recommend plans to combat these diseases.
- Attract experts in the international health field to study epidemic diseases to find the best ways to solve these health problems making the UAE society a healthier society.
- Share the scholarly output, scientific and professional research that emanates from the Center, with the pertinent authorities, organizations and other Centers inside and outside the UAE.
The endowment goals of the Zayed Center for Global Health are to support the mission of the Center for the continuous achievement of its goals and to encourage scientific research in the health sciences by providing stable financial support.
Ms. Mouza Saeed Al Badi, Director of Endowment and External Support of the UAEU praised the signing of the MOU which is considered a pioneering national project especially given that the name of the Center shows the loyalty and gratitude towards the Founder of the University and the Country. She expressed her appreciation to the General Manager of the Zayed Foundation and its officials.
