UAEU Developing Internship Program for UAEU students at the United Nations

Today, at the UN house in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Elissar Sarrouh, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the UAE met with H. E. Dr. Abdulla Saad Al Khanbashi, UAE University Vice Chancellor to discuss enhanced cooperation between the UAEU and UNDP.
After a tour of the new UN Resource Center and the Human Development Center, the UN Resident Coordinator presented an overview of UNDP national and regional activities to H.E. Dr. Abdulla Al Khanbashi . In turn, the UAEU Vice Chancellor presented details of UAEU scholarly and teaching programs, including scientific research programs, as well as student theoretical & practical internship programs within various UAEU faculties and degree specializations.
Both parties agreed to develop cooperation programs in addition to developing an internship program for students at the UN in a number of specializations which will strengthen students’ academic development. Dr. Al Khanbashi praised the cooperation between the UNDP and the UAEU and welcomed the idea of giving university students more opportunities for training and internship in different specializations, which will provide students with new skills supporting their academic development.
Dr. Elissar Sarouh welcomed the agreement as an addition to the continual strengthening of UNDP-UAEU cooperation. She stressed that paving the way for UAEU students to take up UN internships provided a great opportunity for the students and was based on the close organizational ties and the relationship between the UNDP and the UAEU.
