AACSB Accreditation Extended to UAEU's Accounting Department, Faculty of Business and Economics
- 1st in the GCC and MENA Region & 10th worldwide outside USA
The United Arab Emirates University has earned the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for its Accounting program within the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE). The Accounting Department of FBE at UAEU is the first Accounting Department ever to make such an achievement in the GCC and MENA Region, and the 10th worldwide outside USA.
Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
To realize accounting accreditation, an institution must first earn or maintain AACSB Business Accreditation. Then, in addition to developing and implementing a mission-driven plan to satisfy the business accreditation quality standards, accounting accreditation requires the satisfaction of an additional set of accreditation standards that are specific to the discipline and profession of accounting.
“Earned by less than five percent of business schools worldwide”, the UAEU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Abdulla Al-Khanbashi said. “This distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education, assures that students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to handle tomorrow’s challenges.”
During the period 3rd – 5th March, 2012, the Accounting Department was visited and evaluated by Business School Deans with detailed knowledge of accounting education and accreditation standards. "It takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn both accounting and business accreditation, and I commend the United Arab Emirates University for its dedication to management education," said Jerry Trapnell, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. "Through accreditation, the United Arab Emirates University has not only met specific standards of excellence, but has also made a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver high quality education to its students".
"Now there is a feeling of completion to be fully accredited at all levels by the AACSB. This is a feat quite rare outside of North America" said FBE’s Dean David Graf, “I would like to thank the faculty, the students, the staff, and all supporters of our Accounting program for making the Department the special place that it is".
“It has been a long and contentious process of developing and sustaining quality in all areas of the Department’s activities. Everyone contributed a great deal of efforts and dedication to high quality over the years; UAEU administration, students, faculty, administration and all UAEU supporting services. I am grateful to everyone for their contributions and sure that the department will move on to even higher levels of quality and successes in the future in order to continue fulfilling the vision of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan for the future of this great University” said Prof. Essam Moustafa, Accounting Department’s Chair between Feb 2001 and April 2012 and Accounting Accreditation and Strategic Planning Committee Chair.
AACSB International is an association of more than 1,300 educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations in 83 countries and territories.
