A brief description of the Event: This is a two-and-a-half day long intensive course focusing on the laboratory diagnosis, management and epidemiology of parasitic infections relevant to the Middle East. The course is co-organized by the Immunoregulation and Infection Research Priority Group of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University and the ESCMID Study Group for Clinical Parasitology (ESGCP).
The course is comprised of formal lectures, laboratory practicals and case discussions. Some of the laboratory sessions will also be partly conducted as case-centered sessions. During all teaching formats strong emphasize will be put on the interactive nature of the sessions. The theoretical sessions, lectures and interactive case discussion, will focus on the diagnosis, epidemiology and management of parasitic infections. The hands-on practical sessions will deal with methods having direct relevance not only for microbiologists, but also for practicing physicians. More advanced, experimental techniques with still limited availability will be discussed and evaluated during the lectures.
