Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan, the first President of the UAE, understood that the future
of any nation depends upon the education of its young people. He dreamed of a national
flagship university that would provide our students with a world-class education, that would
provide the knowledge and the skilled workers to support the national economy, and that
would help solve some of the world’s most pressing problems through its advanced research.
In 1976 his dream became a reality when he established United Arab Emirates University
(UAEU).
Today, UAEU consists of nine Colleges, through which the University offer a comprehensive
array of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral programs of the very highest quality. In addition,
UAEU houses a variety of internationally respected research centers, including the Zayed
Center for Health Sciences, Roadway Transportation & Traffic Safety Research Center, the
Date Palm Research Center, the UAEU Center for Public Policy and Leadership, and the first
National Water Research Center. UAEU is currently ranked as the #1 Research University
in the GCC, #2 in the Arab World, #9 in the Muslim World and #370 globally. The University
employs an outstanding teamof international faculty, all of whomhold doctoral degrees and
are recognized internationally for their contributions to research, innovation, and education.
Only 37 years old, UAEU already ranks among the top 50 world universities that have been
founded within the past 50 years.
In 2010, the University moved to a new state-of-the-art campus situated in Al Ain, otherwise
known as the “Garden City”. The 80 hectare campus is a showcase of modern architecture,
high-tech laboratories, zones for specialized research centers, cutting-edge IT network
infrastructure, and twenty-first century classroom technology. The campus enrolls nearly
14,000 students frommore than fifty countries, and since 50% of our students live in residence,
the UAEU campus is a lively and diverse living and learning environment. Our graduates will
continue to be among the thinkers and leaders who are prepared to address the complex
problems of a globally interdependent and technologically-advanced society.
