The “My Health is My Future” campaign was launched at the Al Sadara School for Boys in Al Ain. It was organized by students from the Mass Communications Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). The aim of the campaign is to instill positive health-related values in high school students.

The campaign was supervised by Dr. Badreya Al Jenaibi, Associate Professor in the Mass Communication Department. She stated that one of the reasons for the prevalence of obesity and related diseases is the widespread availability of fast food and that this is a real obstacle and problem troubling parents in the UAE. Therefore, the campaign aims at implementing one of the goals of the Mubadara Social Partnership scheme: a scheme that aims to serve the community, individuals and other institutions via the voluntary contributions of university students.

The Dr. Nutrition Center (DNC) took part in the campaign by offering lectures on healthy food for children. These lectures highlighted the importance of eating fruit and vegetables, the importance of sport for children and issued warnings concerning the risks posed by consuming too many sweets, potato chips and canned food.

A film was shown which was produced by Methal Al Sheidi, Shamma Al Hammadi, Moza Al Falasi, Salma Hammadi and Ruwaya Al Shamsi all students from the Mass Communications Department. The film was about obesity and the types of food that children need during different stages of their life. The meeting ended with a sports competition aimed at getting students used to playing sport. The prizes were presented by Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar) from Ras Al Khaimah; GASCO from Abu Dhabi; Takatof, Al Ain Dairy and the Leisure Restaurant all from Al Ain.

The Mubadara Project for Social Partnership has previously run other campaigns, such as: “Ded Al Medwak”, warning against the dangers of technology, the “For You: Keep It” Campaign; the “Basma Project”; “Sofara’ Mubadara”, and the “Sanad Project” as well as the latest “My Health is My Future” Campaign.
