Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, met with the Ambassadorof the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Lama Sharif, to discuss a bilateral collaboration. This meeting took place in the presence of Professor Riyad Al Muhaidib, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research. The Ambassador suggested inviting the Rector of the Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan to visit UAEU in November 2014 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities in order to collaborate in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. They also discussed having scientists and engineers work on projects of common interests, such as in the newly established Emirates Energy and Environment Research Center, as both countries share an interest in petroleum related research.

They also agreed that a UAEU delegation would visit Kazakhstan in May 2015 to visit the Eurasian National University and the Al Farabi Kazakh National University, with the objective of inaugurating a joint conference on the teaching of Arabic to Kazakh students. This conference would be jointly organized by UAEU and the Al Farabi Kazakh National University with support from COMSTECH, part of the Organization of Islamic Conferences, among others. Dr. Al Noaimi suggested that the University could solicit the support of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and some other Emirati organizations that have business interests in Kazakhstan, such as the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and the Al Hilal Bank. The Ambassador suggested that UAEU also invites the Presidents and/or Vice Chancellors of other GCC universities to the event.

The Kazakh Ambassador noted that his country has huge resources and since independence is considered to be among the richest 50 countries in the world, while also aspiring to be among the richest 30 countries. This can be achieved through strategic development and via cooperation with more developed countries such as the UAE.

Attending the meeting was Dr. Bakhtyar Tassymov, a retired diplomat, who has authored 10 books on the teaching of Arabic to Kazakh students. He was recently awarded a Saudi Arabian award for his long-standing service to the promotion of  Arab–Kazakh relations.
