The Center for Career Placement and Alumni at the United Arab Emirates University, in cooperation with the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, organized a KAFA’AT program as part of the ABSHER initiative by holding a training course entitled; “Preparation for Entering the Labor Market.” It is aimed at potential and recent graduates and was held for three days last week. The course aims to provide hands-on training in order to attract Emirati graduates to work in the private sector.

The training course included discussions and interactive sessions that focused on practical activities which enable participants to acquire the skills and capabilities necessary for entering the labor market, allowing graduates to work in the private sector with ease. Mr. Stephen Honsberg, a professional trainer, began the first day of the training course with, “Self-assessment and Career Planning.” Here one identifies their strengths and weaknesses, personal and social skills as well as scientific and educational interests. The course teaches you how you can build skills and gain practical knowledge in order to reap many benefits.

On the second day, Mr. Honsberg presented a session on CV writing, allowing the trainees to become familiar with successful CV writing. He identified the proper format and content for CVs. He next discussed “Job Search Methods” and explained the best techniques and strategies to successfully search for a job and overcome any challenges.

“Job Interview Techniques” was the topic on the final day. Participants were exposed to the many kinds of interviews they may encounter. These training courses are considered important and necessary for graduates, as they provide them with the opportunity to identify the difference between university and career. Such training courses focus on the nature of work in the private sector, how to apply for such jobs, and how to succeed in them both personally and professionally.
