Under the patronage of his Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the university recently welcomed 41 new members of faculty from a range of highly prestigious international academic institutions. Their work at the university will be in line with UAEU’s vision of inculcating leadership and excellence in higher education and scientific research.

This new faculty were welcomed at a reception held at the Hilton Hotel in Al Ain in the presence of His Excellency Professor Mohamed Albaili, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Provost), and His Excellency Professor Ghaleb Ali Alhadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment. Professor Albaili conveyed the gratitude of his Excellency the Chancellor for choosing UAEU, and his wishes for every success in their teaching careers. He stressed the hope that the new faculty would make a positive contribution to the university by utilizing the diversity of their scientific expertise, increasing the number of research contributions and making use of their respective cognitive and educational skills, all of which will contribute positively to the UAE’s educational environment.

His Excellency also noted the fundamental role of faculty in the education and development of students and asked the new faculty to focus on the educational attainment of their students. The diffusion of knowledge and involvement in research are national priorities forming part of the university’s commitment to continuing and extending education. As the leading university in the UAE, UAEU has a remit to continually supply the country with highly competent and distinguished future leaders. There is also a requirement to produce a greater volume of intellectual property and to further research. Furthermore UAEU values its role in providing community service. All of this is possible given the excellent facilities, modern, cutting-edge educational environment and the full support of the national and university leadership.

All in all there were 41 new faculty members in attendance. This represents 14 in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; 9 in the College of Business and Economics; 7 in the College of Food and Agriculture; 3 for each of the College of Education and the College of Science; 2 in the College of Engineering and one faculty member in each of the following Colleges: the College of Information Technology, the College of Law and University College. All new faculty began work on Sunday, 24^th of August.
