The Career Planning and Placement Section of the Center for Career Placement and Alumni at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) recently organized a lecture entitled, “How to find a job in the digital age.” This lecture was held in collaboration with Bayt.com, a recruitment website, for 180 students in the auditorium at the College of Information Technology. It was delivered by Mr. Ahmad Tar’ani, Business Development Officer at Bayt.com.

The aim of the lecture is to help students to make the right decision when choosing a major to specialize in. It should help them to select an appropriate profession for someone with their specific abilities and interests. The initiative is supported by the national leadership. For example the Edraak website was recently launched under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein; wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and the daughter of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. It contains a lot of useful information and offers free courses in many disciplines.

Mr. Ahmed Tar’ani addressed the most important factors, as identified by experts and specialists in career guidance, with regard to writing a professional curriculum vitae (CV). He also touched upon how to promote your personal brand and how important that is in regard to social networking and how excellent personal branding can promote career paths and allow for the expression of personal characteristics.

He highlighted groups of private companies and institutions that offer employment through  Bayt.com, and the number of opportunities available to individuals registered with the site. They have access to these jobs and can get a feel for the needs of the labor market in a variety of disciplines, such as engineering, business administration, science, information technology and many others.
