The Office of College Activities and Community Support at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), in cooperation with the National Rehabilitation Center and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the Ministry of the Interior, recently held a seminar entitled, ‘Your Future is a Guarantee for Your Country - Say No to Drugs’.

His Excellency Professor Ali Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU, delivered an opening speech stressing that the UAE leadership is striving to preserve the wealth and achievements of the nation’s citizens and to protect them from danger. He referred to the work of the Ministry of the Interior and other authorities who seek to raise awareness of the danger of drugs to the security, stability and wealth of UAE society.

He added that the UAE is a potential target for the spread of drugs, especially among young people. We must all face this challenge. If you follow the daily news you would be fully aware of the extent of the danger. The UAE is conducting two operations to battle this scourge: ‘Wooden Doors’ and ‘Shula’ which aim to continue raising awareness of the danger of drugs. Therefore, everyone should show their patriotism by working together as protectors of the country and to be its soldiers and messengers in cooperation with the authorities.

The seminar was run by Dr. Saif Al Mahrouqi, Vice Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Also participating was His Excellency Dr. Hamad Ghaferi , Director General of the National Rehabilitation Center; Major Mohammad Al Mansouri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Abu Dhabi Police; Dr. Ahmed Al-Najjar , Chair of the Department of Psychology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Ossama T. Osma, Consultant and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Dr. Hasan Al Marzooqi, Chairman of the Sharia and Islamic Studies Department in the College of Law.
