The Department of Geology in the College of Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) recently organized a visit from 100 students from the Al Ahd Primary School in Al Ain as part of their Science Week. The students were introduced to the Geology Department’s various activities and community service, and were also informed about the courses offered.

Dr. Khalid Al Baloushi, Head of the Geology Department, stated that UAEU constantly strives to transfer useful knowledge and skills to the local and national community, and seeks to communicate regularly and effectively with the relevant governmental and scientific bodies in the UAE. This visit by primary school students embodies this social partnership as UAEU in general, and the College of Sciences in particular, sees these young students as the next generation of leaders and thus seeks to encourage their education and development of scientific skills through such visits and exchanges.

Dr. Al Baloushi added that the Department had prepared an integrated program for the visit. The program included simplified scientific experiments and introductory movies on the various branches of geology. The students also visited the Geological Museum and laboratory. The visitors were engaged in scientific experiments and introduced to the different types of rocks and minerals.

The delegates from Al Ahd Primary School expressed their thanks and appreciation for the program and praised the many benefits gleaned from their visit. The students were introduced to geology and could ask many questions about this fascinating topic. Hopefully some of these students will further their education in the College of Sciences and be able to contribute to the future prosperity of the country.
