The Student Activities Department on the male campus at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, organized a lecture to raise awareness of harmful and faulty products. The lecture was delivered by Saleh Al Musabi. This lecture is part of a strategic partnerships between the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council and the local community to help consumers to report accidents and injuries caused by unsafe products that may exposes them to danger or even threaten their lives.

Saleh Al Musabi defined the council’s role in protecting consumers from dangerous products. He explained that the council is responsible for the development of the quality control infrastructure in Abu Dhabi Emirate and seeks to ensure that the testing and licensing of products, systems and personnel is in accordance with the UAE’s established standards. He noted that the council seeks to control the manufacture and distribution of products that pose risks to health, safety and the environment. The council constantly conducts market, economic and environmental surveillance in order to preempt potential risks, and to confiscate any products that cause concern. The council also cooperates with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology to control hazardous products via the imposition of mandatory safety requirements throughout the emirate.

The lecture described how a newly launched system allows consumers to report any situation or questionable product. Experts from the council will then inspect the product and make sure it conforms to specifications. In the case of any defects they will then take the necessary legal procedures against either the product manufacturers or retail establishment.

Professor Yaqoob Al Ahmadi, the Head of the Student Activities Department on the male campus, thanked the Abu Dhabi Council for Conformity and Quality for their cooperation in organizing the lecture and their clarification on many points relating to health and safety issues.
