His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), recently received an academic delegation from Lund University (Sweden), headed by Dr. Axel Steuwr, the Director of Business Development in the Physical Sciences Department. He also received a Chinese delegation headed by Mr. Ji Gong Yang, the Deputy Director of the Department of Education for Ningxia Region. These visitors were met in the presence of Professor Mohsen Sherif, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Marzouqi, Director of Research Support and Sponsored Projects, in his office at the UAEU campus in Al Ain.
Dr. Al Noaimi stressed that these visits were part of the university's strategy, following directives from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of UAEU, to develop relationships with the local, regional and global community through the exchange of knowledge and by cooperating in joint research. This allows for the exchange of academic experience and is reflected by academic research, student exchange and joint scientific endeavors.
Dr. Al Noaimi also highlighted the importance of these visits. The Chinese delegation in particular was looking forward to the establishment of an international college in China, which in turn will contribute to the opening up of new horizons of scientific research and innovation. It will also encourage new channels of communication with national institutions and universities in order to enrich the field of higher education and scientific research.
The heads of the Swedish and Chinese delegations expressed their gratitude to the UAEU management for a warm reception and for the opportunity to open the academic, scientific and student exchange channels that will help to enhance the research environment, as well as granting access to graduate studies and scientific research programs and projects of common interest. Additionally, this allows for the colleges of Engineering and Science to collaborate with important scientific laboratories such as the Gene Laboratory in the College of Science.
