The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University organized a “Globalization of Educational Mathematics: Smart Learning Environments” Forum in the College of Information Technology (male campus) on the morning of Saturday 18^th April, 2015.

Professor Frederick Leung, Dean of the College of Sciences, welcomed the participants and wished them a successful forum. He thanked the sponsors and organizers for their role in bringing together researchers, professionals and faculty from UAEU with teachers and supervisors from various educational zones in the UAE.

At the conclusion of the forum Professor Leung stressed recommendations for encouraging innovative and creative environments in educational institutions and applying smart learning techniques. There was also a need highlighted to employ more innovative projects in schools in order to produce a generation of more creative students.

Dr. Mohamed Salim, Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, said that hosting this forum helps to introduce smart education, raise the value accorded to basic sciences and mathematics and attract outstanding students to graduate programs at UAEU. The forum discussed how to create a smart educational environment that improves the learning process and presents mathematics as a fun and creative enterprise.

He continued by stating that there were 200 participants from various universities and schools who reviewed many topics including globalization, educational processes, smart education, “Geo Jabra” applications and other concepts in teaching mathematics.

Ms. Khawla Al Hosani, First Advisor for Mathematics in the Ministry of Education, thanked the Department of Mathematics and sponsors for this important event, which strengthens ties, helps communication with schools, shares experiences and informs teachers and advisors of the latest developments in the field of mathematics and smart education: a key element in the educational process.
