The College of Food and Agriculture at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organized the Food and Agriculture Festival 2015 under the slogan ‘Our Agriculture, Health and Civilization’, from the 23^rd to 25^th of February. It was hosted opposite the activities building on the female campus.

Professor Ghaleb Alhadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, was involved along with Dr. Aisha Abushelaibi, Acting Dean of the College of Food and Agriculture, and a group of faculty and students.

Professor Alhadrami stated that the festival was part of an educational awareness campaign aimed at every age group whether secondary school students, families, farmers or fishermen. He added that the festival focused on raising awareness of the foundations of agriculture, animal husbandry, health, food safety, human nutrition, food security, agricultural management and veterinary medicine. In addition the festival promoted the programs offered by the College of Food and Agriculture and its various research projects often conducted in cooperation with either local or foreign partners.

Dr. Aisha Abushelaibi continued that the college organizes the festival every year and it is characterized by several major events: these include an agricultural and food fair and many activities that develop students’ skills and help to connect the college with the labor market and recent trends in food and agricultural research that meet the needs of the country. The high school students visited the Aquaculture Research Center where it was hoped they would develop an interest in the specialties offered by the College of Food and Agriculture. This also strengthens the university’s role in transferring knowledge and skills to the wider community.
