New Improved Treatment for Nasiolabial Folds “Smile Lines” Discovered by United Arab Emirates University Researchers
Mon, 6 June 2022
The Dr. Hassan Galadari and colleagues, from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain, recently conducted a randomized split-face study to compare a novel bio stimulatory polycaprolactone (PCL)-based dermal filler with a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA)-based dermal filler in 40 patients. They compared the safety, efficacy, and duration of cosmetic corrections for the treatment of patients with nasolabial folds (NLFs), commonly known as "smile lines".
The researchers found that NLFs treated with the PCL-based dermal filler showed statistically significant improvements on the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale and greater improvements on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale at six, nine, and 12 months post-treatment compared with NAHSA-based filler. The products were found to be equivalent in terms of safety and tolerability.
The researchers came to the conclusion that PCL-based dermal fillers offer longer-lasting performance over NASHA- based fillers in the treatment of nasiolabial folds.
