Mon, 6 June 2022
The Department of Medical Education at the United Arab Emirates University facilitated the “Pink Caravan” initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients recently. This is a campaign for the early detection of breast cancer. It was organized on 25/03/2015 in the student activities building on the female campus in Al Ain.
Ms. Khadija Al Naqbi, Head of the Student Affairs Deanship at UAEU, commended this medical and humanitarian initiative that aims to educate female students and staff at UAEU about breast cancer: a disease which takes the lives of hundreds of thousands every year around the world. Medical statistics indicate that breast cancer is more common in women than men by at least 100 times so women were the target of this campaign which ended its journey at UAEU.
Ms. Al Naqbi added that the turnout of female students and staff for the free examination was a good indication of the success of this humanitarian campaign. The medical staff at the caravan went through tests and clinical examinations for the early detection of breast cancer.
The participating medical staff said that preforming early detection examinations helps a lot in avoiding late treatment such as chemotherapy or surgery, as there are many cases that can be cured in the early stages.
The Pink Caravan Team thanked UAEU for its cooperation in fighting this disease and reducing its spread.
