UAEU Organizes a Seminar on the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement in cooperation with the National Center for Meteorology and Seismology

The College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), in cooperation with the National Center for Meteorology and Seismology, organized a seminar on the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement on Tuesday 24/3/2015 in the theater of the College of Information Technology on the Maqam Campus.
This seminar aimed to introduce students and faculty to the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement, which was launched by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, in order to support research on enhancing rainfall through cloud seeding.
Professor Alia Mazrui, Director of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement, said that the program calls on individuals and public, private, profit, and non-profit institutions to prepare research and technical proposals in the field of cloud seeding. She noted the importance of increasing rainfall in the UAE’s dry areas and semi-dry areas.
Mr. Omar Al Yazidi, Director of Research, Development and the Training Department at the National Center for Meteorology and Seismology, said the, “Center contributed to the creation of infrastructure for rainmaking, including a network of more than 60 meteorological stations distributed all over the country, in addition to wide radar networks, and had six modern aircraft for cloud seeding”. They also ensure that no harmful chemicals are used in the process.
