The United Arab Emirates University’s sports teams performed well in football, taekwondo, squash and tennis during the recent Higher Education Sports Federation Championship: a competition involving a number of UAE universities and colleges.

In the football competition UAEU won the championship final against New York University at the NYU stadium. The final score was 3-0. UAEU always had control of the game by dominating possession, good passing, teamwork and an astute tactical approach. Hareb Salem Al Nuaimi starred in the final match and ended as the top scorer in the competition with nine goals.

Mr. Ibrahim Mukhtar, the Director of the Sports and Recreational Activities Unit (male campus) at UAEU, added that the team’s performance improved throughout the championship as they intensified their efforts. He also expressed his pleasure at the enthusiastic and competitive atmosphere, and the sportsmanship that prevailed throughout.

UAEU also participated in the tennis competition, which was also hosted by New York University. They progressed from fifth to second in the team competition. Two singles matches with the American University of Sharjah ended in draws, while UAEU won the doubles by 6 games to 2.

The UAEU team came third in the Taekwondo championship hosted in Al Ain at the university gymnasium on the male campus. The participants came from six universities and colleges: Dubai Police Academy, Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai, Higher Colleges of Technology from Sharjah, the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah and Ajman University.

The UAEU squash team won the silver medal after defeating the American University of Sharjah at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai. The university was represented by Ihab Zhuiban and Omar Yazbek.
