Students from the College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) won three awards in the 4^th “Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Moot Court Competition”, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council. Eleven teams from UAE universities and law schools from Gulf Cooperation Council countries took part.

The UAEU team came first for ‘Best Oral Pleading’, Mariam Saeed Abdul Salam was given the ‘Most Distinctive Female Student’ award, and the team from the College of Law were third in the ‘Overall Excellence’ category. Such achievements reflect the high level, academic excellence and high standards of UAEU students.

The final round saw virtual pleading, which mimics actual trials, being carried out in front of a judicial arbitration panel from the Dubai Courts. This competition is aimed at building the next legal generation and is targeted at students from various colleges of law in the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The competition comprised of two phases: the first phase included the preparation of written memos based on facts and presumptions; while phase two saw the pleas being delivered in front of the judicial arbitration panel from Dubai.

UAEU students Roqaya Al-Hashemi and Shrinah Al Dhaheri were also first and second respectively in the ‘Scientific Research’ Category.
