His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, opened UAEU’s ‘Science Day: Challenges and Ambition’ exhibition and conference on the morning of Monday 4^th May, 2015. It was organized by the Department of Geology in the College of Science at UAEU and was held in the Crescent Building Theater on the main Al Ain campus.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al-Noaimi stated that such exhibitions, containing projects, ideas and innovations, are part of the UAE’s Year of Innovation 2015. They also demonstrate UAEU’s vision of achieving excellence in research. Such initiatives reinforce the support of the national leadership in terms of initiatives and in pursuing the highest academic performance standards. These developments help to provide an environment that embraces innovation and creativity.

The Chancellor toured the pavilions and looked at the projects. The students gave presentations about their projects and the role they aim to play in terms of community service and in providing a sustainable environment. These projects covered areas such as energy, water, geological research, physics, chemical experiments, the Fun Laboratory and a Science Marathon for female students from Abu Dhabi Education Council schools in Al Ain.

Professor Mohamed Al Baili, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said that UAEU celebrates this important event thanks to the important position of science in our lives. Science and scientific research are national priorities and the university is keen to provide support and assistance to faculty, students and researchers.

Professor Frederick Chi-Ching Leung, Dean of the College of Science, added that knowledge is not just about science but that it is the first step towards a wider world through which students can develop cognitive skills, understand knowledge and technology and verify the authenticity of facts. He stressed that education is the basis of progress and prosperity.
