The United Arab Emirates University discusses effective learning in a faculty workshop

The Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the United Arab Emirates University organized a workshop on “Learning Mechanism and Keys”, on Thursday, November 5th, 2015, on the Maqam Campus. It targeted faculty in order to ensure the highest standards of quality, efficiency and transparency in their teaching approaches.
The lecture was presented by Professor Hoda Amer, a member of faculty. She explained the human mind and its thinking, learning style and other conundrums. She said that, “the human mind is the biggest secret we have. There are numerous studies on the human brain and how it acquires, processes and stores information in our memories.”
The various stages the human brain passes through were presented. This included long term memory, working memory, and the importance of sleep in the learning process. Additionally, the impact of emotions on our memory, how we acquire new habits and how we eradicate unwanted habits were also discussed.
Professor Amer concluded the workshop with tips on how to develop a good memory, and how we can stimulate our creativity.
