The Department of Sharia and Islamic Studies in the College of Law of the United Arab Emirates University organized a symposium entitled “Innovation is a way of life’, on Monday, November 23^rd, 2015, in the College of Information Technology on the Al Ain campus.

The symposium was part of the university’s support for excellence and innovation which resonates throughout UAE society. The symposium was hosted by Professor Dr. Awad Hussein Al Khalaf, Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at the University of Sharjah. He stressed that Islam encourages excellence and innovation.

The symposium had two themes: the first was on the importance of innovation and control. Islam has a clear approach towards innovation which contributes to innovative and humanitarian contributions in applied sciences. The second theme dealt with the applications of innovative approaches. Islam views innovation as the harnessing of natural phenomenon for the benefit of humankind.

The symposium was aimed at promoting responsibility towards the university and community in light of the UAE’s efforts at supporting and encouraging innovation as long as it is legal and according to Sharia Law.
