Maryam Al Roumi: “The United Arab Emirates University has made great strides in academia and in preparing national graduates”

Her Excellency Maryam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, expressed her pride in
the accom plishments of UAE women in leadership positions. The have made significant
strides in many fields and kept pace with developments in wider society by assuming
a degree of responsibility.
This speech was part of her visit to the United Arab Emirates University campus in Al Ain on Monday, November 9, 2015. She was returning to the College of Arts (English Department) where she previously graduated. She commented on the development of female education, with the percentage of women in education in the UAE being amongst the highest in the region since the establishment of higher education.
She added that “women in the UAE have made great strides thanks in part to the care and concern the country has for education. It is at the forefront of national strategies which contribute to an increase in the number of female students enrolled in higher education, as well as in the number of female graduates.”
She noted that UAEU, thanks to the care of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the university, has seen great developments in its academic achievements. This is comparable to higher education in a number of international and regional universities. UAEU has a good reputation and standing among other universities and research centers. She stressed that UAEU has helped to supply the nation with many graduates who now hold leadership positions across the nation. This is especially true of government ministries, judicial and diplomatic authorities, and university faculty. Additionally UAEU has graduated many architects and engineers with the requisite skills and practical experience.
The Minister met with students and spoke about her memories at the college and how she became a government minister. She also visited the studio of the Mass Communications Department. She commended the staff for developing courses. She also visited the University Services Department (male students’ section), and was briefed on the services provided by the university to create an ideal educational environment that encourages the pursuit of higher education and scientific research. She was accompanied on her tour by a number of officials and academic leaders from the university.
