In order to keep abreast of technological developments in various fields the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the College of Food and Agriculture at the United Arab Emirates University organized a lecture entitled “Recent Technological Developments in Cattle Farms and Milk Production.” It was delivered by Dr. Cameron Clark of the University of Sydney, Australia, on the morning of Sunday 13^th September, 2015 and was held in the College of Information Technology on the female campus in Al Ain.

The lecture identified modern developments in the field of livestock and animal breeding in order to later make use of these techniques in the UAE’s cattle farming. It shed light on the importance of modern technological developments in cattle farming and also formed part of an initiative from UAEU to strengthen relations between the two universities via cultural and scientific and exchanges.

Dr. discussed a number of themes in his lecture, which was attended by faculty and students from the College of Food and Agriculture. He described how to take care of cattle farms, developments in the field and the importance of utilizing modern methods for the education of medical and veterinary care workers in order to maintain livestock. As well as this he discussed increases in production, prevention of disease and epidemics that can afflict cattle. This is especially important in the light of the spread of certain global diseases which can destroy these animals and causes a great loss of income for some countries.

Dr. Clark stressed that dairy production is a carefully planned work just like other businesses. It is based on principles and criteria that must be followed in order to achieve the highest levels of production. The most important principle is knowing how to take care of the animals.

He added that the development of modern and advanced care methods for cows has been quite remarkable in recent years due to advanced feeding methods and the use of high lactation breeds. This has led to high levels of production, export and the marketing of dairy products. All of this is a significant development in terms of production in developed countries. He stressed that the equipment used had a significant impact on this development and that a favorable climate was the most important factor in increasing milk production.

Dr. Clark commended the care, attention and advanced technology he has seen used on farms in the UAE in order to breed cows and ensure the quality of milk production.
