Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment, met with the special needs students (organized by the Special Needs Services Center at UAEU) on the evening of Tuesday 1^st September, 2015. The meeting was held in the Business Center in the Crescent Building on the Al Ain campus. This meeting is part of UAEU’s vision of caring for those with special needs and helping them to integrate with their colleagues and peers.

Dr. Al Kaabi commended the efforts of these students in striving for academic excellence and seeking to graduate from the University and contribute to the growth of the national labor market.

He also added that the Special Needs Services Center is providing both academic and lifestyle services to these students. This includes technical requirements such as specialized equipment and tools. Additionally, they also supply specialized assistants, professors and medical supervision.

During the meeting Dr. Al Kaabi mentioned that the center also conducts study reports on students with special needs. This includes enumerating their academic qualities, their abilities and also the difficulties that they face. These difficulties include problems encountered during lessons and tests. As such, facilities are provided in the classroom and during exams. Suitable teaching methods are also employed. Such reports are prepared after individual interviews. In addition, instruction is given to the teachers and professors who teach students with special needs. These instructions and suggestions are classified on a case by case basis and include how to deal with visual impairment, physical disabilities, hearing impairment and speech problems.

The students in attendance thanked UAEU for listening to their problems and understanding the challenges they face at the beginning of a new academic year. They praised the role of the university’s Special Needs Services Center, which contributes significantly contributes to enhancing their study opportunities, facilitating their movement, coordinating study schedules and providing training.
