A training program called ‘Second Line Leaders’ was launched by the United Arab Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership in conjunction with the Training and Development Unit of the Human Resources Department. It is aimed at the directors of respective UAEU departments (second line leaders) to enhance leadership skills and was held on Monday, September 28th in the Information Technology Building on campus and was presented by the Icon International Training Center.
Professor Faeqa Helal, Secretary General of UAEU, was quoted as saying, “I hope you all gain the maximum benefit from this program, which will provide you with the necessary skills to create an environment where you can share your experiences and support the goals and mission of the university as we strive to achieve the national mission of supporting development and innovation in the UAE.”
As Dr. Ghaleb Al Hadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, stressed the importance of this program and the positive results expected of it both within and outside of the university. Effective leadership should keep pace with global trends. Additionally, Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment, stressed that, “the participants in such programs must be dedicated and productive leaders serving the nation as we seek to control the challenges facing us in an ever-changing world.”
The program will be held every Monday until December 29th, and seeks to improve organizational effectiveness by enhancing basic managerial skills and introducing principles and methods that enable managers to achieve outstanding and sustainable results within their institution. This is achieved through clear strategy, raising awareness among staff and a commitment to, and involvement with, the common values that underpin the institution rather than blindly following policies and routine. The program will also explain how to simplify the workload in support of institutional strategies and objectives that seek to make the working environment more effective.
