In pursuit of leadership and excellence in higher education:
The United Arab Emirates University organized the 2nd University Chancellors’ Forum from 8-10 February 2016 in Dubai. A number of chancellors from Arabic speaking and international universities were present. The forum was part of the World Government Summit 2016 which was being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The United Arab Emirates University is working to promote leadership and excellence in higher education at regional and global levels. The forum highlighted innovative academic practices by reviewing and exchanging teaching and research experiences. There were three main themes: the first was the future of higher education in terms of theoretical, scientific and academic approaches and the various institutions interaction with governments and international organizations. Dr. Rifaat Faouri, President of Yarmouk University in Jordan, discussed these issues. The second theme looked at higher education systems and gave a vision of the future in terms of teaching styles and methodology, academic management and curricula. Dr. Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University from Egypt gave a talk on this subject, while Dr. Abdellatif Miraoui, President of Cadi Ayyad University from Morocco, concluded the forum by talking about scientific research and future incentives. This dealt with global trends, future expectations and development.
The sessions were attended by other university chancellors and presidents including Dr. Hussein Al Ansari, President of Kuwait University; Dr. Humaid Bin Shneiti, President of Algiers University; Dr. Amal Jalal, President of the University of Al Quaraouiyine from Tunisia and other university representatives.
