The Advisory Board of the College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University met with students to discuss developing curricula on Monday 22/2/2016 in the College of Information Technology Theater on the Maqam Campus. Dr. Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science, advisory board members, faculty and students were present.
Dr. Murad explained that, “the advisory board is made up of members from different sectors and strategic partners. They advise the college on priorities and trends in education and scientific research; they propose strategies to achieve the college’s objectives; they strengthen ties between the college and the community; establish effective partnerships; enhance the reputation of the college and liaise with trainers and employers to find opportunities for students among other activities.”
Mr. Sultan Hajji, Vice President of Total E & P and chair of the board said that, “UAEU is one of the best universities in the region, and students are fortunate to be here since UAEU provides an excellent educational environment, international programs and top quality facilities such as laboratories and classrooms.” He added that, “choosing to study science helps to fill positions of vital importance to the UAE as it seeks to develop.”
Suhail Al Muhairi, executive director of the Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector at the Al Ain Municipality and a board member, talked about one of the board’s objective which is to listen to the views of college students in order to develop long range strategic plans face future challenges in both academic and scientific fields.”
During the meeting professors and students asked questions of the advisory board and offered opinions and suggestions to help to achieve the college’s goals, which includes meeting the needs of the national labor market.
