His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, chaired the first meeting of the UAEU Council for academic year 2016/2017 on Tuesday 4th October 2016 in the Crescent Building on campus in Al Ain.
The University Council includes Eissa Abdulfattah Kazim, Director of the Dubai International Financial Center; Younis Haji Al Khoori, undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance and Dr. Mohammad Salim Al Olama, undersecretary in the Ministry of Health. It also includes Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency; Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Hamaid Al Shimmari, CEO of Aerospace and Engineering Services with Mubadala and Aisha Abdullah Omran, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf Today. Additionally, Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Sheryani; Professor Mohamed Abdullah Al Baili, Vice Chancellor of UAEU; Dr. Asma Al Menhali from the College of Science; Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Al Houqani from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences; Dr. Shama Juma Al Falasi from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dr. Mohammed Miqdad Al Suwaidi from the College of Business and Economics all serve on the council.
Dr. Al Noaimi praised the efforts of the university’s faculty and staff in achieving the university’s strategic plan. He also praised the academic achievements of faculty during the past academic year. He highlighted the support of the national leadership in seeking to produce a well-educated and informed generation of graduates capable of contributing to the knowledge-based development of the country while maintaining an innovative and happy environment.
Important decisions were taken such as formulating the new strategic plan for 2017-2021, the establishment of the National Centre for Space Science and Technology, issuing degrees to graduates from the second and summer semesters of 2015-2016 and appointing new deans and their deputies in certain colleges. The council also discussed the university’s achievements snd also current and future projects.
