The College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University organized an annual orientation meeting for doctoral students on campus on Sunday 4th September 2016. Its aim is to introduce students to UAEU’s doctoral programs. Dr. Bernard Oliver, Dean of the College of Education and his assistants were there.
Dr. Oliver said that, “the meeting introduces doctoral students to UAEU’s requirements. They must be capable of conducting research. We will define key terms and clarify the notion of post-graduate study for the first-year students in the doctoral program and answer their questions.”
The College of Education aims to introduce students to the doctoral programs offered by the college. They are Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Foundations of Education and Special Education.
Aisha Al Shamsi, from the second cohort of doctoral students, spoke about her experiences and how to succeed in the program. She also mentioned the facilities, quality assurance and the best learning methods.
During the meeting the students were introduced to a guidance program concerning regulations and admissions criteria for the doctoral program. This includes a Master’s degree from a university recognized by the Ministry of Education: Higher Education and Scientific Research Affairs, in a related field. You need a GPA of no less than 3.30 out of 4.00, or an equivalent to a Master’s degree from a university recognized by the Ministry of Education. Also required is a band of 6.5 or above in the IELTS examination, or its equivalent in other tests.
