The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) recently welcomed 19 new distinguished faculty members from different prestigious international academic organizations as part of the New Faculty Members Orientation Program at the start of the 2nd semester of the 2016-2017 academic year, in the presence of His Excellency Professor Mohamed Albaili, Vice Chancellor of the UAEU, and a number of academic and administrative personnel.
Professor Albaili opened by saying, “First, I would like to convey the regards of His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Noaimi, Chancellor of the UAEU, and his wishes to you for a successful journey at the UAEU through your contributions which will foster the research and educational skills in developing the students’ capabilities, which will positively contribute to the outcome of our education system.”
Prof. Albaili said that the UAEU, based on its vision and excellence in higher education and research at regional and international levels, is considered to be one of the leading pioneering educational universities and organizations in the UAE, the Gulf region and the Middle East.
He added that the UAEU recently obtained the international accreditation of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), among other international accreditations for scientific colleges, which fosters the international reputation of the university. This augments the successful transformation in the last few years of the UAEU to a research institution which supports the expectations of the government in contributing positively to the progress of the UAE through leading the future by research, scientific creativity and innovation in the national and strategic priorities to achieve sustainable development.
He said that this will be achieved by preparing graduates to be qualified for existing job markets, and by providing educational and research services, a scientific environment which is aligned with the international standards in strategic fields, and effective partnership with the concerned parties to support knowledge resources in society. He added that the UAEU supports and participates in all national initiatives, such as the Year of Reading and Emirates Innovation Week.
He said that through the Year of Giving 2017 initiative, he looked forward to the participation and support of the new faculty members with their scientific effort, and in developing students’ scientific and research skills within the values system of the university to foster values of tolerance and giving to achieve a happy environment in the university community, which consists of 14,000 students from different nationalities, cultures and ethnicities, and to encourage respect of values, heritage, and cultural diversity. He finished by wishing all faculty members success in their professional and research journey at UAEU.
The Human Resources department, represented by all its sections and units, provided support to the new faculty members to enable them to start the 2nd semester 2017 effectively by helping them to complete their administrative, legal, health insurance, housing and other procedures within the New Faculty Members Orientation Program to facilitate their stay at UAEU and in Al Ain.
