Mon, 6 June 2022
Dr. Mohammad Masud, associate professor in the College of Information Technology, received a grant from the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) for a senior project related to the Emirates Mars Mission. The project, called ‘The Mission App’ is intended to raise awareness of space technology and the Emirates Mars mission among young children. Five students are working on this project: Omar Abdullah, Hamad Hussain, Salem Al Kaabi, Abdullah Al Isamaili and Fahad Al Blooki.
Project abstract: The project aims to develop an educational mobile app to raise awareness, knowledge and interest about the Emirates Mars Mission. It also aims to promote basic astronomy, planetary science and information about missions to space and space probes. The app will include varied content. The informative content includes text and multimedia activities suitable for school age children, and it will be interactive in order increase interest. There will be fun educational games to encourage independent learning abilities, as well as challenges that will stimulate critical thinking and improve problem-solving abilities. We believe this app can be a stepping-stone that promotes space science and technology through informal educational practices and helps to develop the UAE’s interest in space science and technology.
