Arabic is the official language of the United Arab Emirates; it is characterized by its unique case of Diglossia, the existence of two closely related forms of the linguistic system used by the same language community. In fact, various colloquial varieties, or dialects, are spoken in many Arab countries; but all Arab countries use the Modern Standard Arabic form of the language of the Holy Qur’an as the main medium of instruction in schools; and it is also the language used by the media and for official communication in the administration and between Arab states. Arabic is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
Therefore, the UFP Arabic Program at UAEU offers a variety of Arabic language courses to students entering the University aiming at further developing global proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic, as well as ensuring that all students develop the required communicative competence and skills for success in their college studies and for life-long learning.
The UFP Arabic Program adopts a progressive approach to learning and is based on a sound language teaching methodology. Through a curriculum that focuses on communicative skillfulness in listening, speaking, reading and writing, students are exposed to various genres of Modern Standard Arabic and are provided with opportunities to develop their academic Arabic language skills.
The use of mobile technologies in UFP enhances classroom instruction, student active participation and helps to promote mobile learning as well as learner independence.
