Active directory service is the core of almost every single IT services being offered by UITS. Almost every other application is communicating directly or indirectly to AD domain for authentication and resource sharing. Existing it AD domain services were based on MS Windows 2003 servers which were running 32 bit hardware and OS. This was limiting the increased performance and use of enhanced features available in modern directory services. In year 2012 UITS carefully planned this massive upgrade project and completed the whole upgrade to MS Windows 2008 based 64 bit AD infrastructure in May 2013. Now all business and technical applications are able to unlock their full potential to support modern computing needs.

Students normally request college and major transfers and these transfer requests are handled manually which is time consuming and thus affect the overall service satisfaction. UITS developed an in-house online system through which students can now request college and major transfers without the need to go to a certain designated place. This will significantly increase the efficiency of the overall process.

  • Internet Gateway hardware redundancy,

Cache/Proxy have unique requirements over different type of applications. It’s not realistically possible to cache an entire site, on a single cache device. The new solution is to intelligently load balance requests and persist them to a specific cache not based on who the client is, but based on the content requested. Benefits:

    • Single node persistency
    • Least impacting redistribution of traffic
    • Simple implementation
  • Enhanced Virtual environment,

Enhance the Virtual environment infrastructure such as:

    • Provide VM’s with higher number of CPU’s and Memory
    • additional OS supported
    • More virtual machines can be supported per host
    • Support storage higher capacity.
    • Memory fault isolation

February 2013

The same system is also integrated with main student information system called Banner to upload and attach any student related document

  • Enhanced Application Load Balancing Hardware,

As organization’s growing infrastructure puts more pressure on the network from more users to more feature-rich application and services- meeting these evolving needs can increase operational cost and complexity. UITS implemented a hardware platform which is a powerful device with modular performance blades, we can add or remove with no service disruption to UAEU applications and services. With this upgraded hardware, we can quickly scale and adapt as UAEU needs change. With industry leading layer 4-7 throughput, connection processing and SSL performance VIPRION can manage the most demanding workloads while delivering high availability and high performance on a massive scale. Benefits:

    • Increase the performance of servers and applications by up to one-third.
    • Optimize the performance of applications across multiple.
    • Establish comprehensive safeguards against unauthorized access and malicious application attacks, including all common web attacks.
