Internship Opportunities for UAEU Students in Dresden, Germany
On the 2nd of March 2009, the Government of Abu Dhabi entered into the semiconductor business through its Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) by acquiring the ex-AMD Silicon Wafer Fabrication Facility (fab) in Dresden Germany. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan mandated to send Emirati students to Dresden to conduct summer internships.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) have established a summer internship program for Emirati students at Global Foundries in Dresden, Germany. Last summer, 14 UAEU Engineering students joined the program and benefited a lot from the internship experience in Germany.

To prepare for the "Summer Internship Program 2010", the Internship & Work-Integrated Learning (iWIL) Center and the College of Engineering in association with ATIC, ADEC and Global Foundries, organized an informational session on Sunday November 22nd, 2009 for the UAEU Engineering, Physics, IT and Economics students. The session was also attended by students from the Higher Colleges of Technology in Al Ain.

This summer internship program aims to develop students' technical skills and appreciation of the complexity of semiconductor products and manufacturing life cycle through theoretical and hands-on experience. It also aims to teach students that operating a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facility requires well-established networks, parameters and conditions and, most importantly, a highly-motivated workforce. The program is designed to provide students with experience and appreciation of intercultural and interdisciplinary work in teams, as a critical success factor in operating a global manufacturing business.
The program's duration will be 7 weeks where 60 students from the UAE are sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) to participate in the summer 2010 internship in Dresden, Germany.
Students can apply by filling the Application Form and sending it by fax to 02-6150267 or e-mail to: sultana.alketbi@adec.ac.ae.
