The United Arab Emirates University Holds "The Biotechnology Day"

Under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Chancellor of the UAEU and Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, the United Arab Emirates University held the Biotechnology Day on Wednesday October 27th, 2010 at its new campus - Faculty of Information Technology Auditorium. 

The event was organized by the iWIL Center and attended by Directors and Representatives from the government and private sectors of the country, in addition to senior students from the United Arab Emirates University and Zayed University with Chemical Engineering, Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Food & Agriculture majors.

The Biotechnology Day was inaugurated by the UAEU Provost, Dr. Wyatt R. Hume, who addressed the attendees and stressed on the importance of the biotechnology industry to the country and the university students.

The first keynote speaker of the event, Dr. S.J. Park, CEO of Alteogen Inc - Korea, presented an introduction to Biotechnology and Bioscience and briefed attendees about the different products and life cycle of Bio Drugs.

Dr. M.O. Park, President of BiopolyMed in Korea, informed the audience about the different Biotechnology applications in the pharmaceutical industry and the problems faced with biopharmaceuticals.

The third section of the event addressed the commercial uses and future of Biotechnology and was presented by Mr. Jay H. Kim, the Senior Managing Director of M Venture Investment in Korea.

The event was concluded with a presentation by Mr. Refaat El Sayed, Co-Founder and CEO of Emirates Biotech Pharmaceutical Factory (EBPF), the platinum sponsor of the event.  Mr. El Sayed gave an insight of the factory's project phases and the pharmaceuticals raw material that will be produced by this new factory. With prestigious international partners, EBPF has signed with GL Rapha and Hankook Corus Pharm, two pharmaceutical companies based in Seoul, South Korea, to construct the factory and market the products.

The production of high-end sophisticated technology in the UAE and with Emirati expertise is a step towards a new global position of the UAE in the future. Mr. El Sayed informed the students that Emirates Biotech Pharmaceutical Factory LLC has begun recruiting for phase 1 of the project, and is looking to hire Emiratis with different university and technical backgrounds. New hires will be sent for a 6-months training in Korea to gain expertise and skills before joining the factory and playing an important role in this new industry and the country.
