Call Billing Upgrade and Integration with MS Lync
This project is aligned with UAEU's strategic goals that aim to provide high quality education exceeding internationally
recognized standards.
UITS is always looking to improve the existing infrastructure in order to support excellence in teaching. The old system
was having a limitation of up to 2 GB of throughput and the existing traffic was already hitting the 1.9 GB mark. This
needed prompt attention so UITS took the initiative and upgraded the old system with new one (F5-BIG-LTM-4200) which
has 10 GB of throughput along with robust security.
Introduction of this latest device will bring improvement not only to the existing infrastructure rather it will cope with
the future needs of throughput and additional features.
The University requires to maintain the accountability on the usage of the official phone lines provided to employees.
In order to provide this feature UITS has deployed a state of the art Call Billing system called Proteus. Proteus provides
detailed usage info on all extensions on demand and in real time with statistics. Ever since the launch of MS Lync and its
integration with the existing communication system it was becoming a challenge to keep track of phone usage via MS
Lync. The upgrade to the latest version of Proteus along with many other enhancements also provided this feature as it
supports direct integration with MS Lync hence enabling accounting on MS Lync as well.
