Disks inside the DD are protected
by RAID Technology.
Data Domain supports Data
Replication to another DD Device
for backups protection.
Extremely high deduplication and
compression ratio.
Tapes must be stored in locations with a
controlled environment to ensure pres-
ervation of the media and to prevent
data corruption.
Disaster Proof Media Data
Cabinets (Fireproof, Waterproof, Earth-
quakes, Humidity …etc).
Moving the tapes to the offsite location
adds overhead.
No data deduplication, only
Compression controlled by the Tape
Drive is available.

Deduplication
and
Compression
Using deduplication, data domain identifies and eliminates redundant data. This makes storing data more efficient and
allows Data Domain to store data much higher than its allocated capacity. The current capacity of data domain installed at
U.A.E University is 65 TB, however, the backup data store within this 65TB is roughly 700TB. This is more than 10 times the
original capacity.
Data Domain also provides a replication feature. This allows data domain to replicate its data to another data domain over
Ethernet. This could be extremely useful in the upcoming University Disaster Recovery project. Moreover, Data domain
replicates only changed data, which reduces bandwidth requirement considerably for backup replication to an off-site
location.
