The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has obtained OHSAS 18001 Certification, globally known as the International Management System standard issued by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This standard determines the necessary occupational security and safety requirements to enable organizations to control security and safety risks and improve performance.
His Excellency Prof. Mohamed Albaili, UAEU Vice Chancellor, pointed out that earning this certification is a great achievement, and it is the result of the efforts made over the past years to develop a positive, well-established, and comprehensive culture for occupational health and safety. This ensures alignment with all the legal requirements, and it is especially important given that the culture of safety has become an integral part of the University’s daily activities, in response to the directives of our wise leadership.
His Excellency, the Vice Chancellor noted that obtaining this certification emphasizes the University’s active participation in ensuring the application of occupational health and safety procedures, and making safety a priority in all of its activities, saying: "All University members are committed to cooperation and participation in providing support to achieve the goals of occupational health and safety policy".
It is also worth mentioning that UAEU encourages all staff, faculty members, and students to actively participate in all health and safety arrangements. This is achieved through organizing and holding workshops and training courses on this subject, in order to enable them to perform their activities safely and reduce the likelihood of accidents.
OHSAS 18001 Certification ensures all of the following: it establishes effective occupational security and safety policy; defines roles and responsibilities; identifies and assesses risks; determines the legal requirements and safety procedures for work, and sets goals to educate all staff and students.
