The Department of Chemistry in the College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University is holding a Chemistry Day and Exhibition on Monday, May 2^nd, 2016, on campus. The event will include recreational and educational activities. The Department of Chemistry is going to present certain experiences in the various fields of chemistry. This will highlight the importance of science in our lives and will include a number of companies, institutions and schools.

Dr. Ahmed Murad, Dean of College of Science, stressed that, “this day is part of the college’s efforts to highlight the role of science”. He noted that the Department of Chemistry received accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2011, and the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) in 2007. He added that, “the goal of the department is to prepare qualified graduates who can meet the needs of the community”.

Dr. Mohamed Al Naqbi, Head of the Department of Chemistry, explained, “a group of companies concerned with chemistry will be showcasing their products and other devices related to scientific research. The Department of Chemistry will also present its various academic programs to the attendees. In addition, there will be lectures on topics related to chemistry”.

The Department of Chemistry is promoting research. The faculty and graduate students conduct research in areas of applied chemistry, such as environmental analysis, water, natural products, preparation of biologically-active organic compounds and solid state chemistry. The department teaches in various fields of chemistry and participates in local and international scientific research activities through attendance and participation at conferences and seminars.
