The College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University honored high school students participating in the Iktashifni art initiative on Sunday 22nd of May 2016. This is to showcase artistic talent and to introduce students to the art major offered by the college. Dr. Bernard Oliver, Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Mohamed Shaban, Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and students were all present.
Dr. Shaban, said that, “we have been focusing on talent and creativity among schoolchildren by looking at creative skills and ideas such as using colors, size and other techniques.” He added that the initiative would, “open up partnerships in the community to support students’ artistic endeavors. In addition it attracts high school students to the art education program.”
Professor Mariam Iryani, an information technology specialist in the college talked about the importance of discovering talent and developing skills. She also thanked Tawyah Kindergarten for their cooperation.
The Qattara Art Center offered free courses in drawing to gifted students, while the College of Education submitted a proposal to the Abu Dhabi Education Council to adopt this initiative in all schools in order to uncover talent and encourage student to be artistic.
