The Executive Committee for Mobile Education, part of the Department of Mathematics in the College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), organized a faculty workshop on ‘Electronic Teaching Tools’ to upgrade faculty skills. This is in line with UAEU’s aim of creating a research based society and to prepare graduates who can take on responsibility and leadership roles. UAEU also strives to provide educational services of an international standards.

Dr. Mohammed Salim, Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, said that the aim of the workshop was to train faculty in the latest techniques and tools used for electronic teaching. This is part of the university’s drive to use the latest technology in smart teaching and e-learning. UAEU is already a leading academic institutions regionally and beyond in the fields of smart teaching and e-learning.

This workshop was presented in cooperation with Professor Ibrahim Khawaja from Pearson Publishing. He is a specialist in information and smart technology in teaching. The department conducted an introductory meeting for graduate students enrolled in the Mathematics Master's Program in order to introduce the program and to demonstrate its importance in terms of supplying the needs of the national labor market for graduates holding higher education degrees.

Dr. Nafaa Chbili, the postgraduate program coordinator, added that such workshops smooth the way for new students to the program by answering questions about their academic pathway and promoting knowledge. The workshop also informs students of the requirements for such graduate programs.

Dr. Chbili mentioned that the workshop helped to identify students’ professional orientations, goals and study plans. These plans should be followed so that students can derive the greatest benefit from the program. There is an emphasis on science and how this can better prepare students for the requirements of the labor market.
