In order to spread knowledge throughout society, the College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organized a workshop on the management of international projects, in cooperation with the Total Company of France. It included a lecture series aimed at raising awareness among students about the latest science, techniques and modern technology related to the field of oil and gas exploration and extraction. The workshop lasted for five days and was held in the College of Information Technology theatre on the male campus. It was presented by energy expert Professor Daniel Sankari, a member of the Total Professors Association (Total Professeurs Associés – TPA).

Dr. Ahmed Murad, Vice Dean of the College of Science, stressed that this international, scientific workshop is a part of a strategic partnership between the College of Science and TPA. It is designed to prepare students for the labor market and to provide educational outcomes. Such outcomes allow students to understand global scientific standards and to keep up to date with the developments of the modern world, especially in the areas of energy and technology.

Dr. Murad said that the university management encourages agreements between UAEU and other institutions and focuses on specific sectors that are in line with the requirements of the national labor market. This international workshop is a platform for students from any college at the university aimed at helping to prepare them to take responsibility and be leaders in the future.

Daniel Sankari presented a comprehensive and integrated induction program that began with the importance of project planning and management, particularly with regard to energy and gas as the UAE is rich in these resources. Indeed, the UAE has experienced a quantum leap in terms of energy management research, exploration, drilling and energy exports.

He also briefed the audience on the skill sets necessary to develop the potential to take responsibility in various areas. He discussed the decision making process, especially in terms of emergency decision making. He concluded by referring to the skills needed for conducting discussions, writing reports and working with experts and professionals in this vital area.
