The Department of Geology in the College of Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University organized an open day, in cooperation with the French company TOTAL, on the evening of Wednesday 29^th April, 2015 in the theater of the College of Information Technology in Al Ain. The aim of the open day was to introduce students to the career and educational opportunities offered by major international industrial companies.

Dr. Khalid Al Bloushi, Head of the Department of Geology, said that organizing this event is part of the department’s vision to work on global partnerships that link UAEU with a wide network of international institutions, companies, and other bodies in order to provide high educational standards, meet international benchmarks and also give students the opportunity to meet with experts from industrial companies. As such they can learn from their expertise and also learn about career opportunities in a more global marketplace.

He added that two eminent experts, Adrian Pierce and Miurs Leschor from TOTAL, who work in the fields of geosciences and geophysical engineering respectively, were able to discuss various scientific topics with students and faculty. They were also prepared to take questions from the audience.

They gave a presentation on the activities of TOTAL in various countries around the world, including the UAE, and they spoke about the importance of studying geology, especially in areas rich in resources and minerals. They added that the UAE is an important source of energy and has a prominent place in the clean energy industry.

They also talked about research and career opportunities offered by TOTAL for geology graduates and the opportunities available in this area. In addition to the training opportunities offered by TOTAL they also have many career openings in many countries around the world.
