The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) received a visit from an academic delegation representing three prestigious Japanese universities (Nagasaki, Waseda and Hokkaido Universities). The delegation was received in the crescent building at UAEU. The visit is part of a framework of strategic partnerships between UAEU and university level institutions in other countries in order to support higher education and scientific research in the UAE.

At the outset of the visit organized by the Department of International Relations at UAEU, Professor Mohamed Albaili, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Provost), welcomed the visiting Japanese delegation, speaking highly of the fruitful cooperation between the two sides in various areas including scientific research, teaching and student affairs. This has been reflected in the signing of memoranda of cooperation between UAEU and several Japanese educational institutions.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs announced that the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will offer a new course next semester teaching Japanese language in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in the UAE. This is to promote social and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Mr. Tokoia Kanamori, a representative of the Educational Development Office: Abu Dhabi-Japan said while presenting a comprehensive overview of the visiting Japanese universities, that there were 68 Emirati students currently studying at Japanese universities. They are regarded as amongst the best of the international students studying in Japan. He also showed a video regarding the experiences of Emirati students in Japan which showcased their creativity and abilities as leaders and pioneers in their respective fields. Mr. Kanamori also explained the nature of Japanese college life to students who may be interested in attending Japanese universities.
