18 students from the Department of Geography and Urban Planning at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) became members of the Gamma Theta Upsilon International Geographical Society, one of the most important international geographic societies. It is based in the United States and is concerned with world geography, documenting maps and academic research.

Professor Saif Al Qaydi, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, honored Dr. Khaula Al Kaabi, Chair of the Department of Geography and Urban Planning, and the 18 male and female students who became members.

Professor Al Qaydi stressed that this membership is a great achievement for the department and a tribute to the students. These students are helping to realize UAEU’s mission and vision to excel in local, regional and international forums. It also motivates students to do their best at both theoretical and practical levels.

Dr. Khaula Al Kaabi mentioned that Gamma Theta Upsilon membership is the first of its kind in the Middle East and recognizes UAEU’s efforts to develop its educational environment. This improves the level of academic achievement. This membership can benefit the university in various ways: by communicating and exchanging research findings with members around the world, and by supporting members who wish to complete their Master's and Doctoral degrees.
