Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the Emirates Digestive Disease Group from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU organized a conference on infectious diseases in the digestive system at the Ayla Hotel in Al Ain. There were many doctors and also researchers in the field of medicine and digestive diseases in attendance.

The conference was opened with a speech by Dr. Dennis Templeton, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, in which he noted the eagerness of the university to organize conferences that discuss medical developments and attract eminent doctors and specialists in the field of infectious diseases. This is an important topic of concern to various health and medical bodies, and the conference serves as an opportunity to discuss ideas, opinions and developments in the medical field.

Dr. Ali Al Fazari, Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and President of the Conference, mentioned the topics discussed during the two major sessions. These were developments in microbiology and their relationship with the health of the digestive system; the prevention of diarrheal diseases and harmful colon germs, and the diagnosis and treatment of chronic infections of the digestive system, such as intestinal tuberculosis. Additionally the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases after organ transplant and in cases of weakened immunity of the digestive system, and the diagnosis and treatment of infections of the bile ducts using laparoscopic techniques were discussed.

Dr. Al Fazari added that what distinguishes this conference was the participation of college students and resident physicians from Tawam Hospital, Al Ain; Sharjah, Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, and other health institutions. Medical cases from these hospitals were discussed by the researchers, and they suggested the best methods to diagnose and treat these health problems in order to benefit the students and other participants.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Aulaqi, a senior staff member at the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), thanked the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU for organizing the conference. He added that his company always finds new recommendations for the development of health and therapeutic services after attending such conferences.
